Trip 6 – Cathedral Caves

Cathedral Caves – Caitlins, New Zealand

The Cathedral Caves in Catlins New Zealand are well known to be the only caves which are accessible depending on the sea conditions due to their location. These are series of sea caves and two main caves are joined together within the cliff.

They are located just off the Southern scenic route of the coast along the northern end of the Waipati beach. Depending on the sea conditions, the caves are open two hours before or after the low tide. The caves ceiling reach a height of 30 meters and when one looks up one can see the definite shape of cathedral and hence the name. These natural wonders are one of a kind with varied colors and rock formations.

This was the best place for me to restart my virtual voyage after a long dormancy from my trips. These caves are a symbol of solitude which I could relate to myself.
